2024 Australian Tour Recap

Public Lectures

The tour featured two notable public lectures:

  • Liberal Education in the 21st Century - This lecture, hosted by the Ramsay Centre for Western Civilisation was held before an audience of 150 people at the State Library of NSW in Sydney. In this lecture Andrew explained the problems faced by western civilisation today and how liberal arts education can help to address them. (VIDEO HERE)

  • The Classical Education Revolution - Another 150 people gathered at Australian Catholic University in Melbourne to hear Andrew and Katerina explain what classical liberal arts education is and how it is transforming education in the United States. There was great interest from many participants in creating one or more classical schools in Melbourne. (Video coming soon)

Professional Development Seminars

Andrew Kern and Katerina Hamilton conducted four Professional Development Seminars, engaging over 200 teachers across Queensland, NSW and Victoria. Educators from South Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand were also present to participate in these events. These seminars helped participants to deepen their understanding of classical liberal arts education and equipped them to use teaching methods such as mimetic instruction and Socratic discussion.

Classical Education Conference

A highlight of the tour was the Classical Education Conference held in Brisbane at St Nicholas’ Cathedral Hall. Queensland has become the capital of classical liberal arts education in Australia and this event attracted over 100 participants from around the country. As well as presentations by Katerina and Andrew the event included David Daintree of the Christopher Dawson Centre, Diff Crowther of St John Henry Newman College and Sarah Flynn of Logos Australis.

Meetings with Key Stakeholders

During their visit, Andrew Kern and Katerina Hamilton met with influential figures in the world of Australian education and politics..

Overview

Andrew Kern and Katerina Hamilton of the USA’s CiRCE Institute recently concluded a successful visit to Australia to promote classical liberal arts education. Their tour included professional development seminars attended by 200 teachers and educators, public events attended by over 600 people and meetings with key stakeholders in education and public policy. Andrew and Katerina brought with them decades of experience leading the CLAE renewal in the USA which now boasts over 1000 K-12 schools and many hundreds of thousands of students.
